Tomorrow we will begin our European study conference for theology students on humor in the Bible and in our churches. After a slow start we are happy that the conference is now well attended with participants from Germany, Russia, the Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republik, Slovakia and England. We will see how well our humor translates. Are theree more than language barriers maybe? After all that I have now read on the topic, I hope sincerely that we will have many occasions for laughter. It is proven to be good for our health.
EUROPEAN BIBLE DIALOGUES: Most posts will be both in English and in German on request; comments please in either of these languages - Die meisten Posts werden auf Wunsch zweimal, deutsch und englisch, eingestellt; Kommentare bitte auf Deutsch oder Englisch.

A House for Many - Ein Haus für Viele
Margarethenkirche in Mediasch unsere Begegnungstagung in Siebenbürgen
In
was uns verbindet: Zuneigung und gegenseitige Fürsorge.
Yesterday I
returned from our encounter in Medias (Romania). Our topic was “Families
in the Bible and in Europe”. Time passed too quickly, and we might have wished
for more of it or at least less rushing. “Clocks go at a different pace in Romania” we were told, when we were welcomed at the village church in
Michelsberg with “hanklich” (a tasty sheet cake) and coffee and lemonade. I
guess, I should have considered that.
Our group soon felt like a family as well and maybe we are something like a family. There are so many different kinds of family in the Bible that maybe all that matters is that we care for one another. We cannot all find our place in a traditional family of Mother, Father, Children. Naomi and Ruth had no one but each other and yet they were a family. A house gives shelter to more than just blood relations and our house in Christ lets us all be a family: fathers, mothers, children, the members of our congregation, friends and guests, those we care for and those who are lonely, …

We are family ... Europäisches Familiengefühl in Siebenbürgen
We only arrived Wednesday and many did not know any of the other partipants before they arrived here. Participants came from all over Germany, Romania, of course, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary, Switzerland and Austria: diversity in national as well as family background. Is it our topic "Families in the Bible and in Europe" that after only two days there is a feeling of family, of familiarity among us? Or the cordial, warm welcome here in the Protestant Church in Mediasch? We searched the Bible for families and discovered more on the term "house" which does include the family but also so much more.

IN MY FATHER'S HOUSE THERE ARE MANY ROOMS - MEINES VATERS HAUS HAT VIELE WOHNUNGEN
Tschechien vertreten.)
Tomorrow we begin our bible dialogue in Medias and I look forward to seeing this beautiful country again and by now quite a few good friends. Our topic "In my Father's house there are many rooms" fits well in this multi-national country. We are guests of the Transylvanian Saxons there, the few that have not left the country and migrated to Germany. Their tasks are hard and many. Among our participants there are people from Germany and Romania, as well from the Netherlands, Poland, Austria, Hungary (and in the team there is also Switzerland and Czechia).

VERTRAUEN WAGEN. – DARE TO TRUST
Oktober 2014 in Berlin beschäftigen.
„Trust is good,
control is better“ is an old German saying. Would you agree? Just who can we
trust in today’s competitive world? Blind faith leaves one open to be
disappointed. Can I trust my friends? After a disappointment, we may decide to
trust only ourselves in the future. But we all wish to find someone to trust
completely. Being able to trust another person allows us to relax and be
confident. We feel safe. But can we learn (who) to trust? With an eye on
theological, psychological and pedagogical insights, as well as with exercises
and games, we will dare to build trust: in ourselves and maybe even in others.
